Stain Day

Tucked Youngest in last night. After a jolly game with his Cars. Brrrmmm. Brrrmmm. Don't quite get the Rules. But play with Great Gusto.
We snuggled up together under his cosy duvet.
There was a silence.
'Mummy?' said Youngest. 'Is tomorrow a Stain Day?'
'A Stain Day?' I asked, a little puzzled.
'Yes.'
'A Stain Day?' I repeated.
He looked at me, world weary.
'Mum -mee... you know, Stain Day. The day when Daddy Stays.'
Lights finally switch on in head.
Staying Day!
I hug him close.
'Yup, tomorrow is Stain Day.'
'Oh, good,' he said. 'Yeh!' and punched the air, as he does.
Stain Day.
I love my Boy.

I think my 17-year-olds having a Stain Day.
It's nearly mi-day, he's still in bed and has just phoned me on his mobile to ask for a drink!!!!
And yes I do work in a prison. I am a writer in residence. I don't blog about it though.

Apologies for the spelling mistakes in the last post. It will teach me to check before pressing the button in future.

Awww, that is sooooo cute! Reminds me of when my daughter was younger, she said she was going to get me a Lion for my birthday. A lion? Yes, you know when you get to stay in bed for longer....

Apologies for crowding your blog but I just remembered how my 8-year-old refers to INSET days as INSECT Days. I have visions of all these children swarming around the streets like little bees.
Bye for now!

We love stain days. Stain in jammies till lunchtime. Unfortunately not stain in bed but at least there's no work/school. Hooray

Love that one. I was going to tell you a story about how little boy mangles the name of our daughter. He calls her "Dora"...which is very similar to her real name (which I cannot reveal)...so much so that we have to catch ourselves calling her "Dora" nearly all the time!

Btw, I've tagged you on my blog!

I trust that you did not thrash him too harshly for failing to grasp the fundamentals of English. I am firmly of the belief that corporal punishment is only effective if confined to the more serious breaches of discipline.

Little kids are the best when they try to speak properly, but don't quite get it right. It gives them many opportunities to be just plain adorable. That's why we love them so.

Stain Day.. I love it! :)

I love it when they make these mistakes, it is so adorable. My favourite memory of my son's misunderstanding of words was his version of "all things bright and beautiful" - he thought the next line was "all teachers great and small". Conjurs up some wonderful images!

Lets hear it for the boys! A x

The only one I can think of in a similar vein is the song "somewhere over the rainbow weigh a pie". Why should anyone want to go over a rainbow to weigh a pie I wonder?

CC - !!! Love the mobile phone request for drink! So in awe of where you work. (quite like spelling error... nearly mi-day... every day is nearly mi-day but not quite)
not supermum - Lion!! Love it. Just so sweet.
Jane -Mine said that too! Why on EARTH wouldn't they have a think about WHY it was insect day!! So sweet.
Debs - totally agree. Would be lovely to write them all down, but there are so many!
Laura - they are the best, aren't they... just slobbing about. Stain days are good...
Hadriana - !!! She will just love you when you call her that aged 15!
Our youngest calls his middle brother a very curious rendition of his name... and I agree, its catching!
not supermum - oh my god a tag. Help!!!
VS - rest Assured that he was soundly disciplined for such breach of Englishness. It Will Not Happen Again.
FTW - Utterly agree. Can you imagine if they made no mistakes and were just like us?? They are what they are, and that's what so gorgeous about them.
far side of fifty - Sweet, eh??!It'll be a family saying now, I think!
Anne - That is SO SWEET! Will have to sing it next time we have that hymn!
Troy - !! love it!! Reminds me of Strine - aussie slang. Emma Chisit. (how much is it?) Big giggle factor.

I love those mispronunciations they do. You know you will always call them 'stain days' now, don't you?

Some words mis pronounced stick. My little nephew could never get his tongue round my name. So I am now and forever will be 'Nits'!

Karen said...

That's so sweet. I was going to mention mine saying Insect instead of Inset day, but Jane has beaten me to it :o)

WM - they certainly will be called that... Cant wait for next Stain Day!
Suburbia - so so cute.
Tawny - What a great name, Nits! It seems a bit hard to direct them back to the real name... Nits is brilliant!
Karen - Yup, we've had Insect Day... mine call it that too..maybe these teachers should tell them what it really is... they probably enjoy the mistake too!

That is so sweet. When our children come out with these priceless thoughts, it makes us love them even more, if that's at all possible.

He sounds like a little charmer. I can remember very few of the funny things my 3 grown up lads said, when they were younger. At the time, I thought that I would remember them forever!

It's great that you, and so many other mothers with young children, have your blogs to record all of these things. You WILL remember them forever.

CJ - You are so right... so good to be able to write them down, so that I cant forget.
MM - Look what I just wrote to CJ!! We ARE so lucky... I am enjoying reading back just a couple of months back.. it will be amazing to have this record for life.

So very sweet. I love the words and phrases little ones come up with. My favorite? My 3 year old calls her hind-end her "bobbum."

I love him too.

Ladybird World Mother said...

JQ - bobbum is adorable! Make sure you write it down or you might forget...
BT - Ahhhhh. thank you!
