Sloot Lee Right

Sloot Lee. Said Youngest.
Right.
We have all been here before. Youngest says something Totally Not Understandable.
I ask him a question about Said Word. He either looks at me Askance and shakes his head, or has a Giggle Fit.
So I won't.
I shall just use Sloot Lee, in a Random Sentence, and see if I Get It Right.
'So, who wants to go to the Shop?'
YEEHHH! They all go, merrily.
Sloot Lee. I say.
Youngest looks at me.
Nods wisely.
'Yes. Sloot Lee.' he says, nodding that dear head of his.
We all nod away.
I am None the Wiser.
'Daddy can Sloot Lee come at the weekend, can't he, Mummy?' he says, sidling up and planting a bottom on my lap.
Light dawns as it always does.
Sloot Lee.
Ab-s'olutely.
'Because we all love Knee Chuddur,' he announces.
Oh, Bollocks. Another one.
Knee Chuddur?
Is he Having A Laugh?
'We Certainly do.' says Daughter. She gives Youngest a swift kiss.
More light.
Knee Chuddur.

Each other.

Of course.

Silly Me.

I love it. You should release a dictionary based on your children's vocab.

We were at friends for dinner yesterday and I spent all day translating the 3 year old.

Keep all these in a bank vault for future re-cap. Priceless. They need a safe place of storage!

Wait until he has french lessons at Primary school. Mine comes home with mashed-up franglais expressions and has a temper tantrum when I try to correct him.

At some point in time, I think that I lost the ability to translate "baby talk". It just seems to be something that diminishes with age.

Thank you for the reminder...I have to get out the tissues whenever I drop by, as your posts always reduce me belly jiggling and tears of laughter!

Hello,
Thank you so much for leaving a comment on my child-free blog. It was and is a very daunting thing, writing. Especially when it's imaginative, creative and comes from somewhere inside.
When I have more of a moment, I'll have a good read of your blog.

Lovely post, am smiling in recognition.

My youngest child is about eighteen months post that stage - so given my reeling state of motherhood it has taken me this long to realise she has left it. Sigh.

I've had many experiences like this. It can take me the better half of a week to understand my babies.

The funniest experience I had was my daughter asked for something and I gave it to her. She said, "Shay-Shay." In reply I said, "No honey, it's 'thank you'." Which surprised me that she was doing 'baby-talk' since she knew "thank you" and had an extensive vocabulary.

This went on for the better half of the day until she watched one of her favorite shows Ni Hao Kai-Lan (little Chinese girl like Dora or Diego) and I happened to notice something.

She was actually saying "Xie Xie" which is Mandarin Chinese for "thank you".

I felt terrible for correcting her! Now I never correct them!!

Love it! All makes perfect sense to them - and complete gobbeldegook to anyone over the age of about 16!

I ache to hear the little words you are so fortunate to hear, and wise to pen about. I wrote so many down in my Bible and, like a complete dolt, left it on top of my car never to be seen again. With it went years of precious memories of just the type you describe. But at least I have the two who said them and THAT is a happy thing indeed.

Granny - this blog is a good bank vault! so good to get these things down and so easy to forget them..
CS - Mookles on his Waddit!!! That is so adorable...
VS - OK. Have repeated Nostesti about 25 times with different syllable stresses... still none the wiser... I think I will be somewhere today and suddenly Get It. Until then....??!

Oh I remember those days! Luckily my youngest is totally understandable. My oldes child would say to me "ooowie doooie mommy" and I would say Huh? It took me almost a month to figure out that he was saying "what are you doing mommy". I will never forget that one.

FTW - he absolutely is! And bless him for it.
Suzanne - !! totally!
Nicole - oowie doowie! funny how sometimes it takes such a long time to get what they are saying... glad you got that one!
