In Which Daughter Takes to High Fashion at Breakfast

Daughter appeared to wear cocktail dress for breakfast this morning. Chosen from bag of clothes kindly given by fifteen year old babysitter.
I could see Middle Son looking Aghast at her outfit. I managed to choke back unkind laughter as she entered the room, looking all pleased with herself.
Head to toe, white with huge black swirly patterns, with shorter skirty bit floating round her knees. Tiny little black sparkly top over her shoulders. Hair loose.
'Gosh.' said Husband.
Daughter sat down and with pleased expression shook cereal into bowl and sat back. Beamed at us all.
We all stared back.
'Why are you wearing that silly dress?' asked Youngest, always Mr Tactful.
'Because I felt like it,' returned Daughter, eating cereal with spoon and little finger extended, just so.
'Well, you look like a silly lady,' announced Youngest.
Daughter appeared not to mind in the slightest.
And she continued to wear the Cocktail Dress throughout the day, while we went shopping, spent some time at a friend's house, and bought some more sawdust for the rabbit cage. People stared. Quite a lot. Daughter totally unfazed by Attention.
For someone aged nine, she possesses the confidence of a Hollywood Starlet.
Too bad it's not appreciated by her brothers.

PS
Off to Devon in the morning for a week. There is No Computer in Devon. Gulp. Well, actually there is one, but it is Grey, Huge and has Dial Up. Get the picture? By the time you get internet it's time to have lunch. The Next Day.
Have a good week, one and all.
I am Remaining Optimistic about the weather.
Ho hum.

Just in case the dial up works, here's me saying have a good time. I'm off as well for twelve days.
I bet daughter actually looked a little gem, being a little on the young side is sometimes an advantage lol

Oh, no! She won't have a thing to wear, at her next cocktail party, now!

It's great fun to dress up, isn't it? I would wear my cocktail dress at breakfast too, if I had one! What a kind and thoughtful babysitter you have.

Hope you have a good holiday!

LOL - A couple of my daughters (who are grown now, and have daughters of their own) went through a faze of wearing lacy gloves & lacy socks with every outfit. We got quite a lot of stares when we would go to the grocery store. Jean shorts, t-shirts, lacy gloves, lacy socks, and sometimes tiaras. Just gotta love little girls!

Have a great weekend;-)

Ah, nothing like a nine year old's sense of style to brighten one's day. My daughter is the same. Fab!

Hope you have a lovely time in Devon - I love it there RMxx

Oh I love it. Reminds me of The Wild Man who went costumed every where we went for many years. Someday when I buy a scanner I will be able to show his many outfits. He is now mortified. I am still enraptured. :) The confidence is wonderful. Soak it up. And enjoy your holiday!!!!

Oh thank you one and all!! Madly dashing round the house, finding teddy (found in suitcase) and putting notes for people who are feeding cats, fish, hens and rabbit... husband looking at veg garden a lot.
Right. Deep breath. Time to switch off the computer.
See you!!xxx

Your daughter sounds delightflul. I love her sense of herself. Have fun and don't worry about the computer - easy for me to say, harder for me to do without.

Can just picture the breakfast scene and the shopping one. Wonderful. One of my grand-daughters, now 10, used to love dressing up in Disney character outfits to go shopping. Oh and if you'd said earlier you could have popped into Somerset for a coffee, on your way to Devon. As I write, very early morning on Sunday, it promises to be a good day. Do hope you get some lovely weather this week LWM, then you won't be bothered about the computer. A x

Good luck with that. The weather I mean. We had a hail storm this week and it looked like it had snowed!
Hope you have fun.

Just be thankful it wasn't one of the boys! My 6 year old thinks he wants to be the Hulk for Halloween (already) and wants to paint his nails green to practise!

Ah, now I know a think or two about these lacy long/short numbers. My Granddaughter weare 'emo' stuff. I don't know either but it sounds as though that's what your 9 year old was wearing. The in think in Chesterfield it is. EMO. Not EMU. Though some attire does have feathers and gloves, no, just one glove. Yes, that's right, she wears just one pink, black and white lay glove.

God I must be tired, that should be lace glove.! Have a great holiday.

Hope it is divine in Devon, dial up or not.

Hope daughter doesn't get in too much of a fashion faux pas, sounds just like my eldest was, a hundred years ago!

ooooh, so jealous. We headed towards Devon and ran out of time (of course we have to stop at everything along the way plus 94 toilet stops). Enjoy!! We'll keep the rain up here in Norfolk so that you can have a little summer down there for a few days.

Hope that you have a good week. I have often wondered where children get their outlandish clothes from. Today I saw a child in a bright pink skirt and yellow shoes. She almost looked as if she was wearing fancy dress.

How lovely to get back and read all these lovely comments!! Washing and dull things prevent me at the moment from sitting and answering each one, so apologies for that. Also longing to go and read all your lovely posts of the last week... will do so in a quiet moment. Oh, and it was sunny in Devon!! Unbelievable Rain one day, but otherwise blissful. Right, off to get the lunch. XX
