Crows Feet

Golly. Mice. Again. In Attic.
However, these were not Normal Mice.
They appeared to do Housework. Or perhaps that might be Mousework.
Moving furniture type of Housework. You know, getting behind the piano to hoover. Sort of thing.
Lay in bed in the early hours the other morning. Crashing. Scraping. Banging. For God's Sake, what were these mice bloody doing?
Spoke to Husband about it later as we sipped our cup of tea in bed.
'Why are those mice so bloody noisy?' I asked, plaintively. 'Could hardly sleep with all that noise.'
'Because they are Crows,' Husband explained kindly. 'On the roof. About twenty of them. Jumping about.'
Oh. Jumping? On the roof? Crows?
Had Absolutely No Faith in Husband. Course they're not Crows. They are Mice. Any Fool would know that.
This morning heard the Noises again. Lay and listened to scratching and rustling.
Thought to self, That is Not A Crow. That is a mouse or even, gulp, a Rat.
Listened a bit more.
Decided to open window because a bit hot.
Crept to window so as not to wake Husband. Opened window. Twenty Big Black Crows who were jumping about on the roof flew off and into the dawn.
Right.
That'll be it, then.
Husband is right. Again.
Grrrr.

The husband is ALWAYS right. Don't you know that by now?

:)

ha ha ha. Don't you just hate it when that happens. Men are far too "right"
At least your husband doesn't rub it in, mine would have.

I'd rather have crows on the roof, than mice in the attic. Just smile sweetly, and think good thoughts.

It was just a fluke - you're still in the lead!

My mother's house (where I'm going soon) has bloody great magpies crashing about and if you leave the attic roof windown open they stick their heads through. Gave me the fright of my life last year.

CM - Too right... crows are now far away... we'll see if they come back!
Jeff - Oh. Except when they are wrong? But that doesnt seem to happen too often here. Grrrr. ;)
Pam - Rub what in? ;)
NN - This is very true... much relief when I knew that there were no mice... and you're right, I AM still in the lead... here's hoping!

EM - oooh, you popped up at the same time as me! Those magpies sound ghastly. We have them in the chicken run... maddening things. Glad they aren't on my roof...

We get seagulls on our roof - noisy, screechy things. You have my sympathies, particularly as you had to concede it might not have been mice! I had to back down over a jar of marmalade today (if you see what I mean). A x

They do sound like builders in boots walking all over the roof, don't they? Drive me mad!

Caught up on your last few posts - "Pretty please" had me in fits!

Ha! Ha! At least you don't have Richard Dreyfus Syndrome.

Anne - wow, you must be fit. To back down over a jar of marmalade... that is strength indeed! Yup, seagulls are the pits, and so NOISY. Why do they have to shout so loud all the time? :) xx
WM - that is exactly what they sound like... so why did I think they were mice?? Oh dear. Am going slightly mad I think. glad you liked pretty please! x
CS - LOL! Nope, don't have that, poor man. Always far harder to be wrong when one is so positive in the first place!

If they come back again hopefully opening the window will do the trick. I am sure that your husband is not always right!

You could always bake a pie, you know, like the nursery rhyme:

Four and twenty black birds/crows baked in a pie......

You'll never be hungry again with that lot on your roof!

When I was a child we used to have peacocks on corrugated iron rooves. They are rather clumsy birds and damn heavy - make a total racket! Mind you, they are prettier than corws (or rats!)

Don't you hate that.

And inre to your previous post where your child spilled the hot chocolate? when my three boys were young, I wished a magic fairy would pay me one dollar for every spill I cleaned up. I'd be rich woman right now.

Yes, Husband is right but he was sleeping when you made the discovery so he doesn't need to know anything.
We're having a crow infestation right now...I'll probably read more into it as a sign the aliens are invading or a good Tippi Hedron movie is about to come to life. Better eat that ice cream in the freezer so it doesn't go to waste when the world ends.

How romantic - sharing a cup of tea in bed. Mrs Troy and I always have always had a cup each but now we'll try it your way and save on the washing up.

Psst - husband might not be right after all. If there's more than two of them, they're probably not crows at all, but either rooks or jackdaws. Don't tell him I told you!

That must have been some sight with all those crows jumping on your roof. Still and all, even if your husband is right, I'd rather have crows than mice in the house.

cw - They weren't there this morning! (yes he is... except when I'm right, which is most of the time ;))
RM - Now thats an idea... just need another four... do magpies count?!
Mud - I WANT PEACOCKS ON MY ROOF!! Much more upmarket than crows.. or indeed mice.
mj - Very rich indeed... millionaires perhaps.. dont you just hate that SPLOSH when you are out in nice restaurant and yet another spillage has to be mopped up. Grrrrr.
Imbeingheldhostage - Very true.... Husband does not have to know that he was Right. Will keep it very quiet. have you eaten all the ice cream yet? Perhaps you should leave some til your very last moments before they take you away? :)
Troy - And on tea bags. ;)
The D - Hooray!! He might not be right!! Yippeee. Will get bird book out. Not that I am desperately wanting to be right or anything....;)
MW - Quite a sight, and quite a bloomin sound too!! But... no sound this morning. Am quietly hoping that the sight of me in my pyjamas put the crows off. Hope so!

Robynn's Ravings said...

They were NOT crows. Husband is wrong. They were evil black mice with WINGS!

Ladybird World Mother said...

!!! LOL at this one! Will take close look next time I see the bloomin things and see if they are just as you describe. But wouldnt that mean they were bats??! :)

How blooming annoying is that? I hope he didn't spot you opening the window?
