Trying to Remember Not to Forget

Have Simply Awful Dread that I am going to forget something.
As a result need to have Note to Self which is backed up with Handy Reminder in Diary.
Accompanied by note on kitchen cupboard.
Oh, and another little reminder by the phone.
And by my bed.
And in the car.
And in handy little techno jobby in my phone, called, inspiringly, Reminders.
Do Not Like that awful lurch.
You know, the one when you realise you have forgotton the Smoked Salmon for 250 people. And someone is asking you in Bright Expectant Voice, Where is the Smoked Salmon for 250 people?
Not good either, when you have forgotton the bread to go Under the Smoked Salmon. For 250 people. Not Good. Not Good At All.
Don't really want to do That again.
So.
I remind myself continually.
With my Handy Reminders.
What makes me Really Cross, though, is that while I can NEVER forget how awful it was to forget the smoked salmon for 250 people, or indeed the bread to go Under the Smoked Salmon for 250 people, I CAN forget just about Everything Else.

Maddening.
Just Maddening.

I just have to say that 1) I completely understand... and 2) I absolutely look forward to reading your posts now, with a sort of relish normally reserved for Christmas Day. Just saying. :)

Sorry, what? Pickles? Oh yes, and some hard boiled eggs please.

That was very funny. The way you told it, not your misfortune. Just to be clear.

It is great news that you are preparing salmon sandwiches for your blog followers. At first I thought to myself "why for 250 people when there is only 116 followers?". Then I realised it was obviously at least two sandwiches each with a few left over so no one feels guilty about taking the last one off the plate.
Do you deliver or must we collect?
Hope you deliver otherwise I'll have to leave loads of notes all over the place reminding me to collect! That would make a good blog posting.

Ummm..still thinking...oh, now I remember...

I have it easy. All I have to do is remember to get up in the morning and go to work. I have a huge amount of respect for you moms who have to remember to get three kids off to three different schools at three different times (each with the right school bag and lunch), then pick them up from three different schools at three different times and take them to three different activities and then pick them all up from said activities at three different times...

...and somehow manage to do all that without ever once leaving one of them standing by the curb wondering where mom is.

That would all be a huge disaster if I had to do it. Huge.

Now, where did I put my car keys? It's time to go home.

You are an absolute scream. I wish I had half of your ability to give such an amazing life to such everyday things.

"where is the smoked salmon for 250 people?"
well?

what did you do with it?

or
did you forget all about it all together?
and
if so which one is worse?

OH! I'm so completely with you on this one. In fact, just had this conversaton with the young adults in my Sunday School college/career class. Most loate lists...but a few identify with me. They feel oppressed by them - I feel positively AIRY once something is committed to a list. I know if I file it in my brain alone it is likely never to be heard from again. List are the only way I can sleep soundly when I know others are counting on me.

Now I need alarms going off everywhere to remind me to look at the lists!!

smileymama - oh, you are such a kind soul... how lovely to say such a thing. Thank you!!! (oh and glad you understand... good not to be the only one...)
Pam - sure bloomin have. Although... thats a really good idea! Now, where is my hanky...
gg - Oh, bless your heart... at least you CAN remember something. That is progress I would say.
LCM - !!! hey, but thats me anyway... I will suddenly remember something RIGHT in the middle of a conversation... people think I am totally raving mad. Am not. Just love remembering something!
Mwa - very glad that you clarified that one, Mwa!! Cos it was a Very Bad Moment. As far as I can remember. ;)
Jeff - !!! It'll come back... just do something else...!!
Troy - now... firstly you will be thrilled to find there is one less follower... (I think I must have forgotton something, dont you reckon?) so there will be more smoked salmon all round. BUT have forgotton it all, so in fact there wont be any. Sigh. Will try to do better next time.
Jeff - told you!! Oh, you are so nice to say all of that... sometimes it scares the pants off me to think I might forget one of my darlings somewhere... used to have dreams about leaving babies behind. Awful. Never have though, you will be glad to hear.
Matthew - that is such a nice thing to say... thank you!
WITMR - glad that you need all those damned Aide Memoires too! Although kids are good reminders, if noisy ones on occasion. x
Elaine - oh GO ON, do them at the same time!! Am sure that no one will notice. Snort. x
CM - it was. Deeply deeply traumatic. Forgot the lot. Horrified moment of recognition. And then a mad scramble to buy the damned stuff in time for the 250 people who were turning up not long after. All was well, but it was an awfully expensive mistake.
BUT they didnt ask me to do that again, did they!! Result!!x
Reasons - oh, sorry, my darling... Troy ate the lot!
Robynn - aha, ALARMS!! Now that is a really good idea. Although am totally with you with the Lists. I can feel my shoulders go down a mile or two when something is committed to a List. Heaven. Almost feel like its been done already! xx
