Nearly the End of the Year

Do you know, I realised in my bed the other night the reason why I love blogging so much.
People Hear Me.
That's right. People listen and ponder and Hear Me.
I can tell a story, from beginning to end, without interruption. Amazing!
You see, I love the company of people. I love to be with my friends.
However, I am the one who Listens. Nods. Supplies the tissues. Makes the tea. Makes More Bloody Tea.
People tell me I am Such a Good Listener.
Well, that's because I bloody well Listen. I don't interrupt. I wait for the story to begin, and then to end. I ask questions that need to be asked. I shut up when I need to shut up.
However, when I talk, I am aware of every nuance of boredom in people's faces. I will quickly shut up if I am around someone who betrays a hint of lost attention.
I may be a good listener but I am a Crap Talker. Unless I am with my very best friends, and I am blessed with wonderful ones, then I just take on the role of listener, and quietly put my own story aside. Again. Because it is easier to do that than to struggle on with someone who is looking over my shoulder.
So.
Now, with Blogging it's different. I can tell my story. To the end. No interruptions. No faces to read. No distractions.
Now, here is the Really Good Bit.
What I am finding now is this...
Because I know that you lot Listen, then I feel Heard.
And then what happens is, that I feel that I can speak a little more confidently Out in the Real World, about whatever absurd thing happened that day and people are now Listening. Laughing away. 'Tell us more.'
Bloody brilliant.
I am not saying that I was a gibbering stammering wreck of humanity. That I was so boring that people wanted root canal work above listening to me droning on about Sheep. No. Nor am I saying that I have become the World's Biggest Bore.
I am saying that blogging has given me the confidence to know that I Am Quite Funny. I Am Interesing. I am Bloody Worth Listening To. (Unless I am rather plastered. Then I am Very Boring Indeed. Everything becomes Extremely Funny)
Blogging has unplugged all that negativity I had about not being boring. It has all swished down the plug hole with a huge great Gurgle and has gone.
This is all rather a relevation. I am a little bashful and shy about revealing such a thing.
But I have.
And now, all you New Blogger Friends of mine. Happy New Year. Thank you for all your comments and LOLs. Here's to 2009. I am now getting in the car and driving down to Devon to the mother in law. She has a computer, but it is in the shed and it's Bloody Cold Out There. And it's Dial Up. Say no more. A Bloggerless Weekend, I think.
Have Good Celebrations tonight, one and all. Be safe.

God Bless.
X

The only problem with being the first to comment is that I feel guilty that you might think I have not Pondered Enough before commenting.
However I am a very fast ponderer and therefore you should no concerns on that score.

Happy New Year! I am impressed that you are going from 2008 to 1999 (to a dial-up computer) as that is not an easy thing to do.

Hmmmm, do we believe that Troy has supersonic pondering powers? Could he really be hiding a pondering superhero under that mild-mannered exterior? Does he wear brightly coloured underpants over the top of his trousers, after changing in a phone box. Actually, do they still have phone boxes anywhere?

I too found more confidence from spouting on the blog, and on an online forum too. It allowed me to be me again - such a wonderful gift.

So pleased to have 'met' you in 2008. Hope you and your loved ones have a marvellous 2009.

Ah, a Listener here too....really chimed a chord....though, a few shots of alcohol makes a huge difference, I find - and turns me into the worst kind of Talker...

happy New Year, LWM.......hope it's a good one.. jxxx

I'm sorry,...were you saying something?

Seriously, glad to have found your blog; it is both inciteful and humorous. Blogging does give people a voice; glad you have found yours.

All the best in 2009.

You are so right! I started my blog to have an outlet for all my thoughts about being a 'have it all' working mum, which no-one else I know seems to understand. Now I can rabbit on to my heart's content.

Happy New Year to you. Don't even attempt dial up, it's so frustrating now!

It is funny how this bloggy thing touches our non virtual life. It has changed mine quite a bit!

I so enjoyed reading this and the MIL bit made me laugh. If you're desperate, at least there is a shed to go to!!!

Looking forward to 'seeing' you in 2009

I could have written that, especially feel that way about what I write on the Journey, if I didnt write it it would remain unsaid, and then what?

Its been fun getting to know you through your writing, and I hope you have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009!

So does this mean without broadband things would be different? Either way, have a great new year!

Hi, I just met you and I don't think you're boring at all. And the only place we don't agree is the bit about being boring when you're drunk and everything is hilarious. With me, I really am an amazing and happy drunk and I'm never boring. Slurring my words and using probably too much profanity and whatnot, but not boring.

The only thing about blogging is you get to perfect your words before you put them 'out there' (at least I try to!) I worry that in Real Life, my readers would be mortally disappointed and slip away smothering yawns five minutes after meeting me :o)

Confidence has definitely increased in me too since I became a blogger.

Happy new year!

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL! Will settle myself down for a while asap to reply. Have laughed and 'ahh'ed' myself through your comments.
Off to bed now after Quite a Visit. Needless to say did not venture into the Dial Up Thing.
Sleep tight. XX

Happy New Year LWM...know what you mean! Thank you for the award. I haven't figured which one you mean yet...but will you keep it warm for me? I am feeling a bit crap and a bit low at the mo. I think you say things straight from the heart and that touches us all out here in blogland. Take care. Hxx

Happy New Year!

I'm glad blogging has given you back your voice. I think to an extent it did the same for me.

Although I do think that writing is easier than talking somehow - people have more time to take stuff in and respond appropriately, it is hard to do that when someone is talking because of distractions and well, just because really.

Anyway, here's to more blogging for us all in 2009. I think it is going to be a mighty good year!

Hadriana - so hope you are OK. The award will stay nice and warm here, ready for you when you are ready...
Much lovexxx
Claire - stratospheric!!! A very Happy New Year to you too...X
Reluctant Blogger - you are so right, it is much easier to write, and have time to think about what you want to say... much harder to do that on your feet.
Yeh... Here's to 2009 and more blogging!!

LOL - That's reminded me why I turned to blogging...the ability to get not just one sentence out but quite a few without interruption is deliciously delightful :-D x

I know the feeling about not talking. I am really loud and can talk bollocks for hours, but rarely can I talk about personal things to me. At least when blogging, no one is going to laugh at me and call me bloody stupid (not to my face anyway).

Thanks for your blog, I have been reading blogs for ages, but finally took the plunge and started writing my own last month. I have put a link to you on mine, hope that is okay.

Almost Mrs A - isnt it just! No wonder blogging is so damned popular...
tawny - am so glad you have linked up! good to see you. I know just what you mean... its good to get some personal stuff down without blatant ridicule! And I bet you dont talk bollocks...
