It's Good to Talk

Have discovered Simply Marvellous New Thing.
It's called Talking.
What you do is find someone you like the look of, or who makes you laugh. Then you sit down with that person and Talk.
Such Fun!
You can talk about Anything you like from films to books to politics to body hair. Or whatever.
Brilliant!
Why didn't I think of it before!
You see, have recently spent an awful lot of time on Computer.
Blogging. Working. Checking Hotmail. Checking Just About Anything Really.
Oooh! Must check and see if Boden have any nice clothes in Sale.
Ooh! Must just see if Nephew has fallen off horse in his 2000 mile charity trek through the
Andes.
Ooh! Must see if I have any new comments on today's post.
Ooh! Must look up obscure and Totally Unimportant Thing on Google to avoid doing the Ironing. Again.
What? What's that? The phone? Oh, ignore it. They'll go away.
Damn and Blast and Botheration... those bloody people who are coming for supper will be here soon. Will have to stop checking Important Things and cook something. How simply Dreadful. Better check google for some good recipes.
Hooray! Bloody People coming for supper have Been and Gone!
Must check Hotmail!
Must check Comments!
Must check Weather Forecast!
Well.
You see how I have become. Not very good, is it?
So I have begun a Simply Brilliant Thing.
Chatting.
Today I had a friend over for coffee. I turned off the computer and turned my back on it.
I think it got quite Sulky. I could have sworn I saw it stick its tongue out.
Anyway.
Had lovely chat with my friend and talked about everything we could think of.
Laughed until we felt sick.
Ate too many chocolate biscuits.
Finished off the cafetiere, sitting at the kitchen table.
Wandered round the garden. Looked at the chickens. Collected the eggs. Friend delighted to receive six beautiful bantam eggs from our two little silkie bantams.
After friend had gone decided to leave the damned computer alone.
Picked flowers. Weeded outside the front door.
Hung out the washing.
Had simply lovely time doing Simple Tasks About The Home.
But...
Will I be bored to death by Simple Tasks by end of tomorrow? Will I be gagging to get back to Important Things like checking out google for the weather for the week after next, or finding a Hanging Thermometer that I can have outside the back door? Or where to find Pink Wellington Boots?
You know, those kinds of Essential Things I Need to Know Immediately?
Will let you know. Might be a Little Tricky to Break the Habit. But will be Simply Marvellous to re-aquaint myself with the Iron and the Washing Powder.
Right. Where are those curtains I was going to make? Better find a nice pattern. Just have a little look on the comput..........NO!!!!!!
This is going to be Harder Than I Thought.
Do they have Computer Users Anonymous?
I'll look it up on the compu...........
See?
Turn. It. Off.
There.
Gosh.
It's Quiet.
Um....

I find myself checking emails at stupidly inappropriate moments. Any help you find for this, gratefully received.

I do actually have a life. I just neglect it a bit. It's probably on the life-protection register.

I have to agree that I too am 'addicted' to this darn machine!
Love it though.

You are so right. I find that I spend more time on the computer...than just about anything else.
But dang, it's a lot more fun than moping floors that just get dirty again:-D

It's a love/hate relationship. I'm so addicted to you all and to the writing process itself. I really need to turn the whole thing off and write my BOOKS!!!!

Guilty as charged. Am trying to take days off here and there. Is there a patch for this?

Oh I hear you on this one ;-)

Hmm... I know what you mean. It's difficult to be a part-time blogger and it's no good promising yourself that you will just spend 10 minutes on the internet. I do sometimes catch myself feeling resentful, when I have to tear myself away from the computer to meet my friends for a coffee. Oh, dear. There's no hope for me.

This is one of many reasons I won't have a mobile 'phone or one of those mobile thingies with the interweb on it.

I get so irritated when I see the person in the queue in front of me is delaying me because they're spending more time saying: "yer know..." on the 'phone than they are paying the bus driver.

Quite right too - those dreadful friends who want to take up your time to chat about Stuff. Thoughtless!

Mind you, being stuck at a computer all day in an office does take the shine off it a bit...

Fancy a chat?

When I am spending too much time on the laptop I (try to) limit myself to extremely funny blogs that cheer me up...such as yours!

The only way I can get away from it is to go away. Although my husband has his Blackberry with him at all times, just in case you need to know something vital!

Hmmm, now I'm feeling guilty. First thing I do when I come downstairs in the morning is turn the computer on "to make sure no one's sent me an important message". Yeah right!

Oh, you've got it bad! I would curl up and croak if I couldn't check my computer daily! (all right, 437 times daily, if you must know)

But I have to admit, my house would be a lot more "visitor friendly" if I could just walk away, but I find myself saying things like "oh, you haven't seen Susan Boyle? I simply must Google it for you... or we can check out you tube, if you like - won't that be fun??
But then when I realize that I'm boring them to absolute tears... and they go home, I say a little YAY and settle back into this seat that knows my bottom so well!
I figure if they want to visit with me, they can just check my blog and see what I've been up to!

Does anyone have the number for Blogger's Anonymous?

When the really important stuff happens you know that you have got to deal with it and the blog has to take a back seat.

Oh, I hear ya sister. So funny. I'm checking on you instead of cleaning my kids bathroom. This is just so much more fun!

wow,I thought it was just me struggling with this. There are many others displaying the same symtoms. I think I'll close for now, grab up my pad and pen; and go to the park before it gets too hot. nick
